President Biden started the Pacific strategy of “controlling the Korean economy and ASEAN” by holding North Korea and China’s economic systems in check with the ASEAN summit before the Korea-US summit.

The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee held the ASEAN summit on the 12th and said, "I highly appreciate ASEAN member states who have fully complied with and implemented all Security Council resolutions and international agreements on North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs." We urge you to continue efforts to promote greater integration and unity with our non-ASEAN economic, political and security partners, including the European Union, Taiwan and India.”

Kurt Campbell, NSC Indo-Pacific Coordinator at the White House, said on the 11th that "Korea believes they want to talk to the U.S. on trade and will want to discuss U.S. investment." It is essential,” he said, linking North Korea’s strategy to checking the South Korean economy’s advance into ASEAN.

"The United States has made several attempts to reach out to its North Korean counterparts to initiate dialogue," Campbell said in an interview with the American Institute for Peace (USIP). Note that there is a new president of Korea with a firm will. Based on this, I think the US is ready for any form of diplomacy or involvement with North Korea.”

“It is undeniable that China is strengthening economic, political and strategic access to the entire Pacific Ocean,” he said. The United States is working closely with partner countries such as Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and the European Union to engage more actively in this matter and to advance its interests,” he said, emphasizing South Korea's role in the Pacific economy to contain China.

President Biden held the ASEAN summit at the White House on the 12th prior to the South Korea-US summit (scheduled on the 21st), and prior to that, the US Senate passed a resolution that "fully complies with and implements all Security Council resolutions and international agreements on North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs. “As ASEAN continues its efforts to promote greater integration and unity with non-ASEAN economic, political and security partners, including Japan, South Korea, Australia, the European Union, Taiwan and India,” he said. We urge you to do it,” the Voice of America (VOA) reported on the 11th.

In a VOA interview on the 7th, President Yoon Seok-yeol said, "I think it is necessary to think about global issues together with the United States and to preemptively play our role." answered.

Following the ASEAN summit, the US will hold talks with South Korea and then hold a quad summit to establish a system with Japan, Australia, and India and the Indo-Pacific.

Under Trump's Moon Jae-in regime, South Korea responded to China's One Belt, One Road strategy by establishing arms sales channels through arms augmentation through the New Southern Policy in Southeast Asia and Southwest Asia.

On April 19, China officially announced the signing of a security agreement with the Solomon Islands, and Prime Minister Sogabare of the Solomon Islands signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Belt and Road Initiative (MOU) during a summit meeting with President Xi Jinping on a visit to China in May 2019.

In February, the United States announced a plan to reopen the embassy in the Solomon Islands, which was closed 29 years ago, and Coordinator Campbell led a delegation to visit the three South Pacific countries, including the Solomon Islands, on April 19.
