Yoon Seok-yeol’s far-right coup to ‘Eradicate Biden’s Democracy’ Approaches Trump as a ‘Strong Person’
President Yoon Seok-yeol’s far-right coup to ‘Eradicate Biden’s Democratic Alliance’ through martial law broke the ‘Democratic Alliance’ and revealed his ‘Strong Person’ approach to Trump as a ‘Coup of Free Ideology’.
President Yoon’s coup to ‘Disarm the National Assembly’, which attempted to break the ‘Democratic Alliance’ between Korea, the US, and Japan built under the Biden administration, canceled the Japanese Prime Minister’s visit to Korea scheduled for January, and as a far-right ideologue of unilateral ‘Freedom Spread’, he is approaching Trump who prefers ‘Strong Person’.
In his declaration of martial law, President Yoon clearly stated the purpose of martial law to ‘exclude democracy’ from the elimination of ‘anti-state forces’ with the strategic goal of ‘Freedom Spread’.
In his declaration of martial law, President Yoon repeatedly repeated the term “Free Republic of Korea,” which is not in the Constitution at all, and he changed the national motto of “Free Republic of Korea” and used this as the basis for announcing “martial law to protect the constitutional order of the Free Republic of Korea,” thereby destroying the Constitution.
President Yoon declared martial law in an emergency speech at 10 p.m. on the 3rd, confirming it as a coup d'état to "spread freedom" by saying, "To protect the free Republic of Korea from the threat of North Korean communist forces, to eradicate the shameless pro-North Korean anti-state forces that are plundering the freedom and happiness of our people, and to protect the free constitutional order."
Nobukatsu Kanehara, a political science professor at Doshisha University in Kyoto, diagnosed that the development in Seoul showed that uncertainty in Washington could still be a greater risk. Professor Kanehara stated that "the biggest elephant is the United States" and that the trilateral partnership (Biden's Democratic Party's Korea-US-Japan alliance) consists of "one whale and two dolphins," and he told the New York Times on the 4th that he was afraid that President Trump, who prefers 'strong people,' would view both President Yoon and Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba as weak leaders if he holds out until President Trump's inauguration with (Biden's 'trilateral alliance').
Deputy Secretary of State Campbell, who established the Biden administration's 'Korea-US-Japan Democratic Alliance', said on the 4th that he "thought President Yoon badly misjudged" the declaration and lifting of martial law, and that "people were prepared to make it clear that this (martial law) was a very illegal process," and called it 'illegitimate.'
Bruce Klingner, a senior researcher for Northeast Asia at the Heritage Foundation in Washington, a Trump supporter, said, "President Yoon Seok-yeol's self-inflicted wounds and a weakened Japan The combined leadership could leave the U.S. with two weak players in its fight against China,” he told the NYT.
Regarding this statement, the NYT said, “Just a few months ago, Klingner said, ‘The potential weak link is a change in U.S. policy,’” and “Biden’s missteps have been a source of vulnerability for the East Asia strategy, and President Yoon’s martial law missteps have led to the ‘collapse of the trilateral alliance between South Korea, the U.S., and Japan. ’”
Unlike the Trump camp’s ‘wait-and-see’ attitude toward the martial law situation in Korea, the Biden administration’s stance has gradually changed from lukewarm criticism to partial criticism.
“We want to say we love the rule of law and democracy and all that stuff, but we’re going to shamelessly ignore this kind of behavior because he’s on our side,” said David C. Kang, a senior fellow at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, a research group in Washington. “But the rest of the world is not stupid. They see this and are very skeptical of the US administration," he said, pointing out the flaws in the "dual attitude" of the Biden administration regarding President Yoon's martial law, saying it showed "a gap between our investigation and the reality of our actions."
The presidential office announced to foreign reporters on the 4th that "there are criticisms that the declaration of martial law was too unreasonable and did not follow the procedures, but strictly speaking, it was done within the constitutional framework," Reuters reported.
The preamble of the constitution states, "Strengthen the unity of the nation, eradicate all social evils and injustice, and further solidify the basic order of liberal democracy based on autonomy and harmony, and ensure equal opportunities for all in all areas of politics, economy, society, and culture," and rejects "the spread of freedom," "the extreme right," and "liberal ideology."
The constitution states, "Article 1 ① The Republic of Korea is a democratic republic. ② The sovereignty of the Republic of Korea resides in the people, and all state authority emanates from the people," and clearly states that it is a "democratic republic" and not a "free ideological state."
The martial law proclamation issued by President Yoon stipulated “punishment of the military” and was defined as “the declaration of martial law in order to protect the free constitutional order,” and thus constituted a far-right coup d’état in destruction of the Constitution.
Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung said at the Supreme Council meeting on the 5th, "The essence of this incident is a coup d'état that dreamed of a de facto monarchy and an attempt to become an absolute monarch," avoiding the term "destruction of the Constitution" and Changed it as "strengthening power through cooperation in liberal ideology."
In an interview with Bloomberg on the 5th, the representative said, "He (President Yoon) will be impeached," and "the only question is whether he will be ousted in a day or a week, or in a month or three months." Regarding President Yoon's declaration of martial law, he stated the reason for his "reputation" rather than "ideology of freedom," saying, "President Yoon has damaged the reputation of the Republic of Korea with such abnormal and incomprehensible actions."
