President Lee Jae-myung's 'Politics is the People's Peace' Violates the Constitution's 'World Peace, Equal Improvement of the People'

President Lee Jae-myung announced in his 'Report to the People' on the 14th that "the most important mission of politics is to protect the safety and peace of the people," thereby violating the Constitution's <Equal Improvement of the People's Livelihood> and <Contribution to Permanent World Peace>.

President Lee then introduced a meeting with conglomerate leaders and heads of economic organizations held in the Presidential Office the day before, and stated that "we have decided to work together to devise countermeasures against the US' trade pressure," thereby excluding the 'democratic formation of the people's political will' and 'exercise of political self-determination' guaranteed by the Constitution in trade negotiations, violating the 'Equal Improvement of the People's Livelihood' of the text, and hindering the right to political self-determination.

The Constitution states in the preamble, “We pledge to secure the safety, freedom, and happiness of ourselves and our descendants forever by working to equally improve the lives of our people and to contribute to lasting world peace and the common prosperity of mankind,” and puts the highest priority on “securing the safety, freedom, and happiness of ourselves and our descendants forever” rather than “the safety and peace of the people,” and “the President’s protection of the Constitution” is specified in Article 65, and Article 69 makes it mandatory that “the President, upon taking office, takes the following oath.”

The presidential oath of office is stated in Article 69 of the Constitution as follows: <"I solemnly swear before the people that I will faithfully execute the duties of the President by observing the Constitution, defending the State, endeavoring for the peaceful unification of the homeland, promoting the freedom and welfare of the people, and developing national culture.">.

The Constitution specifically states in Article 5 that <① The Republic of Korea shall endeavor to maintain international peace and renounce any war of aggression.>, which states that 'maintaining international peace' is the highest goal and that the President has the duty to comply with this, and he swore this oath before taking office.

The Constitution stipulates in Article 8 that <② Political parties must be democratic in their purpose, organization, and activities, and must have the necessary organizations to participate in the formation of the people’s political will>, which enforces <the establishment of democratic organizations> and <organizations for the people’s participation in the formation of political will> in politics.

The provision that “the most important mission of politics is to protect the safety and peace of the people” stated by President Lee in his report to the people directly rejects the “democratic formation of the people’s political will” and violates the goals set by the Constitution, namely, “improving the equal living standards of the people” and “contributing to permanent world peace.”

On this day, President Lee stated, “I will be a strong fence so that the people can live their daily lives with peace of mind and enjoy a bright weekend like today.”

On this day, the president posted on Instagram with the title, “Lee Jae-myung’s Report to the People Today,” stating, “The most important mission of politics is to protect the safety and peace of the people,” and that he had held an emergency review meeting regarding Israel’s airstrikes on Iran, and that he would “take necessary measures to ensure the safety of our citizens first and foremost, and to prevent our economy from suffering major damage due to external shocks.”

The president then met with conglomerate leaders and heads of economic organizations and said, “We have decided to work together to devise countermeasures against trade pressure from the United States,” thereby guaranteeing that “trade policy” guarantees “disconnection” from the political will of the people and controlling the “exercise of political self-determination” by defining a closed strategy by trade stakeholders as the most important policy.

Reuters reported on the same day that <South Korean President Lee Jae-myung promises support on trade issues during meeting with major conglomerates> was ‘support to minimize corporate difficulties with national interest as top priority.’
