Zelensky's Russian-occupied territory 'strong trump card' South Korea's 'North Korean military' media manipulation
Ukrainian President Zelensky is repeatedly talking about the Battle of Kursk in the Russian-occupied territory as a 'strong trump card' and 'casualty propaganda' about the North Korean military, and South Korean media is manipulating the media.
In an interview with Ukrainian television on the 2nd, President Zelensky described the Ukrainian military's invasion of the Kursk border region of Russia as a 'very strong trump card' in future peace negotiations, AP reported on the 4th.
He continued the interview by mentioning the battle on the battlefield, saying, "If Trump solidifies his position, the 'hot' phase of the war could end quite quickly," adding, "It's intense and unpredictable."
In a video address on the 4th, President Zelensky quoted Ukrainian Supreme Commander Oleksandr Sirsky as saying that the battle took place near the village of Makhnovka, not far from the Ukrainian border. President Zelensky said in the video, "Yesterday and today, in the battles near the village of Makhnovka in the Kursk region, the Russian army suffered the greatest defeat by a North Korean infantry battalion and Russian airborne troops," and "This is significant."
Reuters reported on this speech, saying, "President Zelensky did not give specific details. The battalion can vary in size, but usually consists of several hundred soldiers," and "Reuters was unable to independently verify President Zelensky's account," and described it as an "unconfirmed report."
The Chosun Ilbo reported under the title, "Zelensky: 'One battalion of North Korean troops fighting in Kursk was annihilated in two days'" that "Ukrainian President Zelensky claimed that one battalion of North Korean troops deployed to the Kursk front in Russia was annihilated in two days." According to Reuters on the 4th, President Zelensky claimed in his regular video speech that night that the Russian and North Korean forces suffered heavy losses in the battle in the Kursk region. He reported on the 5th that, citing a report by Ukrainian Supreme Commander Oleksandr Sirsky, the battle took place near the village of Makhnovka, not far from the Ukrainian border.
Yonhap News Agency reported under the title, “Zelensky: “One battalion of North Korean troops annihilated in two days in the Battle of Kursk”” that “Ukrainian President Zelensky claimed that the North Korean troops dispatched to the Kursk Front in Russia suffered a total loss of one battalion in just two days,” and that “According to Reuters and Ukrainian media outlet RBC on the 4th, President Zelensky announced this in a regular video address that night, saying that the battle took place in the village of Makhnovka, Kursk Oblast. President Zelensky stated, “On the 3rd or 4th, the Russian troops lost one battalion of North Korean infantry and Russian paratroopers near Makhnovka,” and that it was “a meaningful event.” However, President Zelensky did not provide any additional specific explanations.” Reuters reported that regarding the actual battle, “President Zelensky quoted the Supreme Commander of Ukraine in a video speech that night, saying that the battle took place near the village of Makhnovka, not far from the Ukrainian border,” and “President Zelensky said, “Yesterday and today, in the battle near the village of Makhnovka in the Kursk region, the Russian army suffered the greatest defeat from a North Korean infantry battalion and Russian airborne troops. This is significant.” The video speech clearly stated that it was the “greatest defeat.”
The Hankyoreh reported under the title, “Zelensky: “One North Korean Battalion Destroyed”,” that “Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that one North Korean battalion dispatched to the Kursk Front in Russia was annihilated in two days.”
The AP stated in the previous article that “Zelensky is desperate for Washington’s support to continue, and he met with Trump in New York before the U.S. presidential election in November, and also met with Trump and Macron in Paris last month (December).” Trump and Zelensky met on September 27 last year, and after a 40-minute interview with Fox News, Trump said, “We both want to see this end, and we want to see a fair deal,” and Zelensky said, “The president wants the war to end, and he wants it to end as soon as possible. He wants a fair deal.” Zelensky continued, “We have to do everything we can to pressure Putin to stop this war. He’s in our territory. It’s important to understand that,” and identified the Russian-occupied Kursk region as a “negotiation card” for Trump.
The AP reported on Zelensky’s TV interview on the 2nd, “Describing the Ukrainian military’s invasion of the Kursk border region of Russia as a “very powerful trump card” in future peace negotiations,” but “The invasion did not significantly change the nature of the war, and military analysts say Ukraine has lost about 40 percent of the territory it initially occupied.” Nevertheless, President Zelensky said that this achievement impressed Asian, South American and African countries and tarnished Russia's military reputation, and he linked it to Zelensky's "Trump bargaining chip," the "North Korean military ideology," even in the face of signs of defeat in Ukraine.
Regarding President Zelensky's war remarks, Reuters confirmed, "In his recent remarks, he said that 'fierce fighting' was taking place along the entire 1,000 km (620 miles) front, and that the most difficult situation was near the city of Pokrovsk." In a televised speech, Zelensky said that “the Russian military continues to deploy a huge number of its own personnel in the offensive.”
Reuters reported that “a Ukrainian military spokesman said earlier that Pokrovsk remains the ‘hottest’ frontline area and that Russian forces are launching new attacks near the city in an attempt to bypass Pokrovsk from the south and cut off supply lines for Ukrainian forces,” adding that “the city, which once had the only mine supplying coking coal to Ukraine’s once-vast steel industry, had a pre-war population of about 60,000, but the Ukrainian government estimates that about 11,000 of them remain in the city.”
Regarding the Trump administration’s “disparagement of Zelensky,” the AP reported on September 29 that “For months, Trump has criticized U.S. support for Ukraine and derided Zelensky as a ‘salesman’ trying to persuade Washington to provide weapons and funds for his forces to block Moscow.” “On September 27, Trump said that Democratic members of Congress After asking Zelensky for a ‘favor,’ he made the first refusal, which was to investigate Joe Biden, the current president, and Biden’s son Hunter, who served on the board of directors of a Ukrainian gas company,” he said, revealing that the ‘Investigation into the Biden Contributions of the Ukrainian Gas Company’ was the focus.
Zelensky announced on the 1st after Trump’s election that the Ministry of Energy had “stopped transiting Russian gas.” The five-year natural gas transport and supply contract signed between Russia’s Gazprom and Ukraine’s Naftogaz in December 2019 was not extended and ended, cutting off the supply of natural gas from Russia to Eastern Europe via Ukraine.
The Russian gas pipeline was connected to the European energy market through Ukraine and Belarus, and
before the war, it supplied 40% of Europe’s natural gas demand as of 2021.
The gas pipeline, Nord Stream I, which directly connects Germany to the Baltic Sea other than the Ukrainian land route, was cut off in August immediately after the war and the gas pipeline was blown up in September, and the other gas pipelines passed through Turkey. There is Turk Stream.
The New York Times reported on the 1st that “in 2021, Russia supplied more than 40% of imported gas consumed in the EU, but the Ukraine war has sharply reduced that to less than 15%,” and “the Ukrainian transit gas pipeline accounted for only about 5% of European imports last year, but it could take away supply from an already tight market and put more pressure on it, and the European natural gas market has seen its benchmark price rise by more than 50% over the past year, and the fuel supply has become more complex and expensive, making natural gas prices in Europe about four times higher than in the United States.”
The New York Times continued, “Analysts say that if the pipeline is shut down, Russia’s gas sales revenue could drop by about $6.5 billion a year,” and “it carries several risks for Ukraine, and Russia could decide to bomb Ukraine’s pipeline network, which it has so far avoided.” It also said that “war is possible.”
The president of a country at war unilaterally quoting the commander in chief in a video speech to announce that “enemy soldiers were killed” is a typical example of psychological warfare aimed at deceiving the public.
Most South Korean media outlets changed Zelensky’s “defeat of a North Korean battalion and a Russian airborne brigade” to “annihilation of a North Korean battalion.”
TV Chosun reported that under the title <Zelensky “annihilation of a North Korean battalion dispatched to Kursk in two days”>, the reporter said, “President Zelensky claimed that “a North Korean battalion was annihilated” after attacking the Russian-occupied Kursk region.”
The Hankook Ilbo changed the title <Zelensky “annihilation of a North Korean battalion in Kursk in two days”> to <“We lost a battalion consisting of Russian paratroopers and North Korean infantry.”>
The AP reported on Zelensky's remarks, saying, "Russia controls about a fifth of Ukraine's territory and has made slow advances in the east over the past year, despite heavy losses in troops and equipment. The trajectory of the war is not in Ukraine's favor, and Ukraine is short-handed on the front lines and needs more support from Western partners." "President Zelensky said Russian and North Korean forces suffered heavy losses in fighting in Russia's Kursk region in response to Ukraine's invasion of the Kursk region," it said.
