Trump Putin Continues Attacks on Civilians in Territory, ‘Participation in Peace’ Korean Media Manipulates ‘Armistice Agreement’ Media
While Korean media reported the ‘Putin-Trump Phone Call’ as a ‘Step-by-Step Armistice Agreement,’ American and Japanese media reported it completely differently, saying ‘Continued War’ was a ‘Participation in Peace Agreement.’
Yonhap News reported on the 18th (Eastern Standard Time) under the subtitle <Trump and Putin Push for Energy and Infrastructure Armistice Instead of a Complete Armistice in Ukraine War (Comprehensive)> <Agreement on ‘30-Day Partial Armistice’ in 90-Minute Phone Call… Ball Returns to Ukraine> <Putin Rejects ‘30-Day Complete Armistice Plan’… Demands U.S. Stop Providing Weapons and Intelligence to Ukraine> <Agreement on the 18th to Push for a Step-by-Step Armistice Plan for the Ukraine War, Including a Partial Armistice Limited to Infrastructure and Energy>, as ‘Pushing for a Step-by-Step Armistice.’
The New York Times reported on the 18th that “the Russian leader has refused for the time being to agree to a broad 30-day ceasefire proposed by U.S. and Ukrainian officials, meaning attacks on Ukrainian civilians, cities and ports will continue as both sides race for territory and an upper hand in negotiations,” and that “some administration officials privately acknowledge that Putin appears to be stalling for time, emphasizing his superiority on the battlefield by agreeing only enough to appear to be participating in peace talks.”
The Yomiuri reported the story as “peace talks” under the headline “Trump, Putin agree on immediate ceasefire on all energy, infrastructure” and “After his meeting with President Putin, he emphasized that “the (peacemaking) process is now fully effective.” “Hopefully, I can get it done for humanity,” he concluded.
Yomiuri reported in the first part of the article, “After a phone call with Russian President Putin, US President Trump posted on his SNS on the 18th, “We agreed on an immediate ceasefire in all energy and infrastructure.”” and “President Trump emphasized that they reached an understanding that “we will act quickly” regarding a complete ceasefire and an end to the war.” This was separated from the “energy agreement.”
AP reported in the title, “Trump and Putin Agree on an Immediate Ceasefire in Energy Infrastructure in Ukraine Conflict,” that “The Russian leader did not support the broad 30-day ceasefire that the US administration is pressuring for,” and that “The White House described this as the first step in a “movement toward peace,” and stated that it hopes to include a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea and ultimately bring about a complete and permanent end to the war.” This was reported as a “Black Sea maritime ceasefire” separate from Ukraine.
The AP reported the White House announcement, “But there was no sign that Putin had backed down from his terms on the prospect of a peace deal that Kiev fiercely opposes,” and “Shortly after the call, air raid warnings sounded in Kiev, followed by explosions in the city. Local officials urged people to seek shelter,” and reported the war continued.
Reuters reported under the headline, “Putin agrees to 30-day halt to energy strikes, but not full ceasefire in Ukraine,” and “Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed Tuesday to a temporary halt to attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities, but did not support a 30-day ceasefire that President Donald Trump had hoped would be the first step toward a permanent peace deal,” and “Experts said Putin avoided making significant concessions in a situation that could have been a play to buy time as Russian troops advance into eastern Ukraine,” confirming the report as a “failure to reach a ceasefire.”
Reuters continued, “It is unclear whether Ukraine will participate in the talks that Trump Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Sunday,” and “Witkoff told Fox News’ Hannity program, “Until recently, we had not reached an agreement on two aspects: the energy and infrastructure ceasefire and the Black Sea launch moratorium, but today we have reached that point. From there, I think it is a relatively short distance to a complete ceasefire.”
The “Korean media’s step-by-step ceasefire agreement” presented the basis for expanding the “step-by-step ceasefire” that the Trump Special Envoy’s pro-Trump media announcements.
KBS reported, “Trump-Putin agree to ‘30-day partial ceasefire’… Zelensky agrees for now.” The anchor said, “The two leaders agreed to a 30-day partial ceasefire on energy infrastructure facilities. The 30-day full ceasefire that the U.S. initially agreed to with Ukraine was revised due to Russia’s opposition.”
The KBS reporter reported, “Russia and the United States have agreed to a partial ceasefire in the Ukraine war,” and “President Putin effectively rejected the ceasefire during the phone call, citing effective control measures and the suspension of the rearmament of the Ukrainian military, and President Trump proposed a revised proposal during the phone call, according to the Russian Kremlin. The Kremlin said that President Putin responded positively and immediately issued the order to the military. The White House emphasized that negotiations will not stop at a partial ceasefire but will continue.”
The Chosun Ilbo reported with the title “Trump and Putin “Stop Attacking Energy Facilities”… Agree on Partial Ceasefire” and the subtitle “End the Conflict with Lasting Peace” in a 2-hour and 30-minute Phone Call” by a Washington correspondent.
Unlike the title, the article stated, “In a statement released after the telephone conversation between the two leaders, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said, ‘Today, President Trump and President Putin discussed the need for peace and a ceasefire in the Ukraine war.’ The two leaders agreed that an improved bilateral relationship between the United States and Russia would bring tremendous benefits, including significant economic trade and geopolitical stability if peace were achieved.” It confirmed the gap with the ceasefire in Ukraine, and in particular, the spokesperson acknowledged the error in the title’s ‘ceasefire’ in her statement, ‘discussion of the need for a peaceful ceasefire’ and ‘agreement on the benefits between the two (US and Russia).’
Chosun reported, “The New York Times (NYT) also evaluated that “this falls short of the unconditional ceasefire that Ukraine has agreed to.” The Associated Press reported, “The White House announced that measures would begin immediately, but it is not yet clear whether Ukraine will accept this gradual ceasefire.”
‘Newsis’ reported with the title <US: “Trump, Putin Agree to Halt Infrastructure Attacks and Begin Armistice Negotiations” (Comprehensive)> and the subtitle <Trump and Putin Have 90-Minute Phone Call Regarding Armistice in Ukraine, “Agree on Need to End War… Immediate Negotiations in Middle East”, US-Ukraine Proposal for 30-Day Armistice Not to Be Enforced>.
‘Hankyoreh’ reported with the title <Trump-Putin Agree to Halt Attacks on Energy Facilities… Ukraine “Will Support”> and the subtitle <30-Day Halt… Armistice Negotiations on Armistice in Ukraine Also Begin> as ‘Comprehensive Armistice Begins’.
Reuters reported on the same day that <Trump Special Envoy Witkoff’s Attendance at Saudi Arabia Summit by Ukraine Is Uncertain>, and there was no mention of a ‘comprehensive armistice’ in the US-Russia announcement on the same day.
